Annual Convention

10th Annual NHEA Convention
March 24 & 25, 2009
Maui Community College

In celebration of the 10th year anniversary of the NHEA, this year's Annual Convention returns to the site where it all began: Maui Community College.

2009 Theme & Mana'o: "Hānau ka Pākuikui noho i kai kīa'i ia e ka lā'au kukui noho i uka."

Born is the Pākuikui (surgeonfish) residing in the sea. Protected by the Kukui tree residing in the uplands. This demonstrates the dualistic nature of our genesis and the balance that exist in our environment.

This years theme - Kumu Pa‘a: These symbols are befitting of energies we must use to be persistent in our endeavor to strive for higher (learning) education. To begin from the sea (bottom) of the ahupua‘a and to ascend to the uplands (top) becoming enlightened by experiencing the journey moving towards that symbolic shape of the mountain, back to our foundation, our start, to our Kumu, and make us Pa‘a - firm all of these experienced things.

To push ourselves to the brink and be industrious as the Pākuikui fish by doing the work - to become the elegant Kukui tree, poised and experienced
