The ‘Aha Po‘o Council is
the governing entity of NHEA. They are responsible for setting and
implementing NHEA policies, management of NHEA financial resources,
and NHEA personnel.
The NHEA ‘Aha Po‘o Council consists of 14 members:
2 members each from Hawai‘i Island, Maui, Moloka‘i,
Läna‘i, O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, and Ni‘ihau.
At the 2004 election, each ‘Aha candidate receiving the second
highest vote total, by island, will serve only one year. This is
to allow for the staggering of terms as prescribed by the NHEA constitution.
Voting will be done by secret ballot at the convention on March
22, between 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and on March 23 between 8:00 am to
11:00 am.
NOMINEE REQUIREMENTS
- Only Native Hawaiians over 18 years old at the time of nomination
are eligible to serve on the NHEA board;
- Only NHEA General, Student, and Lifetime voting members may
make nominations, be nominated, and / or may be elected to the
‘Aha Po‘o Council.
- Board members must remain in good standing for the duration
of their two year term of office.
- NHEA ‘Aha Po‘o Council nominations must be made
fifteen (15) days before the start of convention (on or before
March 9, 2004).
- The nominator and candidate must have either been a paid registrant
for the 2003 convention or for the 2004 convention.
EXPECTATIONS OF NOMINEES
- Newly board members will take their Oath of Office at the Closing
ceremony of the Annual convention.
- Attendance at a full board meeting on 3/24/2004.
- Attend monthly board meetings.
